Word Search Puzzles for Teachers
Printable puzzles with answer keys, or full screen on the board. No login.
You already have the word lists – spelling words, science vocabulary, the names of the planets. This page shows a few ways to turn them into a quick activity, on paper or on the board, without creating an account.
Imagine a Monday morning: fifteen new vocabulary words, a class that needs ten minutes to settle, and a printer down the hall. Paste the list, print a stack, and the warm-up is done.
Projector mode
Projector mode shows the puzzle on a dark screen with large, light letters so the whole room can read it. Press Full screen to hide the browser bars too.
- Solve together: pupils call out a word and its location, and you mark it on screen.
- Press Reveal next word (or the space bar) to show one answer at a time, Reveal all (A) to show them all, and Hide answers (H) to start again.
- Turn on the Timer for a countdown bar under the grid.
- Press Esc to leave full screen, and Esc again to leave projector mode.
Lesson ideas
Vocabulary warm-up (5–10 minutes)
Use this week's words. When a word is found, the pupil says it in a sentence.
Spelling check
Turn off Show word list so the list is not printed or shown. Pupils find words from the spoken definitions you give.
Subject review
Before a test, make a puzzle of key terms. Each found word becomes a quick "explain it to your partner" prompt.
Early finishers
Keep a few printed puzzles in a folder for pupils who finish early.
Differentiate one topic
Make two versions of the same word list: a small, forward-only grid and a larger grid with diagonal and backward words.
Good to know for schools
- No ads. There are no ads on this site.
- No login and no pupil data. Nothing needs to be entered about pupils.
- Print or PDF, with the answer key on its own page.
- Works in a normal web browser on classroom computers and interactive boards.
Mazes for the classroom
Mazes work well as an early-finisher task, a quiet start after recess, or a short brain break between lessons. Use the maze generator to set the size and difficulty for your class and print a PDF with the solution on a separate page, or grab a themed maze from printable mazes. Show a maze in projector mode and solve it together, tracing the path while pupils call out the turns. No login, no pupil data, and nothing leaves the browser.
